Get Ready for Residential Camp Rhode Island

Are you looking for a residential camp near Rhode Island for your son or daughter? Whether it is there first summer at residential camp or they just need a quick reminder, here are some tips to prepare them for the amazing summer they will have at residential camp near Rhode Island!

  1. Living by themselves... Kind of. – Talk to your son or daughter about living themselves and taking care of themselves. Yes, they will have our excellent residential camp staff watching over them, but remind them they have to remember to take care of themselves. Also talk to them about living with other campers. Talk about how to be a good roommate and how to be respectful. Discuss how to react in the event of a dispute or disagreement or any other possible situation.
  2. You’re only a phone call away. – The only downside to residential camp is the homesickness. Being homesick at residential camp is common, it’s not too hard to prevent. Pack items that will remind your son or daughter of home. Maybe some family pictures, a stuffed animal, a favorite blanket. Anything that will remind your child of home is a great thing to pack. Also, its not like all contact is cut off while at summer camp, you are always a phone call away if necessary.
  3. Don’t wait until the last day to pack.- Packing is often the most stressful part of camp. Ask the camp if there is a residential camp packing list that they have. If not, search online for one. Try really hard to not overpack, it becomes a hassle for both you and your children. When packing, label every single item. This will save you from making an avoidable trip to the lost and found on pick up day. Invest in a shower caddy and shower shoes. This will help your child to not forget any toiletries on their way to the shower.

Now that you’re hopefully feeling a little less stressed about residential camp, remember how much fun your son or daughter is going to have this summer. The memories and friends made will last a lifetime.
