Writing Letters to Home While Away at Our Massachusetts Summer Camp

Texting, phone calls, and emails seem to have taken over this day and age, but letter writing is still a key part of summer camp. Although writing a hand-written letter and sending it away with a stamp may seem so 20th century, letters are more personal and give you the anticipation of waiting on a reply. While away at camp, you can write letters to your friends and family, telling them about your fun-filled summer at Camp Half Moon, and during the camp off season you can write to your friends you've made at camp. It may have been a while since you've written a letter, so here are some things you should make sure to include:

  • Tell them you've missed them!

  • Share a funny story with them- whether it be at camp or at home

  • Give an update on the latest news at CHM- when writing to someone back home

  • Ask them about what they are doing

  • Talk about a memory you've shared

  • Ask them to write you back!

Before you ship off to Massachusetts summer camp, record all your friends and families addresses in a notebook to take with you to camp, and make sure you give them the camp address too. Also, at the close of the summer, ask your new (or old) camp friends for their addresses so you can keep in touch even when you're not at Camp Half Moon. Letters are a special part to camp, and can keep you connected to everyone, no matter how far.
