As part of human nature, no one likes to lose. We are taught from a young age that the end goal is to be the best, and to be the best you must win. Regardless of your age, gender, or athletic ability, each and every one of us has a competitive side. However, there are many unspoken advantages to losing. At Camp Half Moon, campers learn to channel their competitive instincts into a fun and healthy competition. And, whether you win or lose here at Camp Half Moon, we foster positive attitudes and the ability to learn life lessons through a little rivalry.
There are so many athletic options at Camp Half Moon that can help you grow as a person, and have fun at the same time. We offer a variety of activities, including soccer, tennis, lacrosse, basketball, wrestling, and more. In each of these, campers get to experience the fun of being pit against their friends, vying for the win. Of course, winning is fun and can teach campers confidence and positivity. However, losing can be valuable as well. Through losing, campers learn to be team players and to channel their energy in to improving. Losing can create a new sense of determination in a camper, a good quality to have in the real world.
At Camp Half Moon, we strive to maintain this idea of healthy competition. We applaud and reward effort and performance, regardless of the outcome of the score. Our staff takes pride in making the campers feel comfortable with playing to have fun, not playing to win. Winning is a fun thing, but definitely not everything at Camp Half Moon. Encouragement without pressure is our top priority, and we aim to help all campers to learn and grow through our many sports and games opportunities.
Remember, the most important part of playing is being in the game. At Camp Half Moon, we offer many sports and games for campers to enjoy while here for the summer. Our list of programs and activities is endless! However, we also take pride in being encouraging and motivating figures during all competitive activities. We at Camp Half Moon believe in the lessons that losing can teach, and are proud to take the emphasis off of winning. It’s true that you have to be in it to win it, but at Camp Half Moon, as long as you’re in it you’ve already won!
